MOUNT HERMON

The beautiful and majestic mountain  called "Mount Hermon" marks the northern limit of Israel.  It extends northeast to southwest for about 20 miles.  It is some 9,232 feet high at its peak.  It lies snow-covered most of the year.  The sources of the Jordan River are found on its western slopes.  It can sometimes be seen at certain seasons from as far away as the Dead Sea 120 miles to the south.  Its snowy peaks are seen at times reflected in the blue waters of the Sea of Galilee.  (Psalm 89:12, 133:3)  It is close to Caesarea Philippi and is considered the Mount of Transfiguration.  (Matthew 17:2)
